Here is a behind the scenes look at the brand design for South Windsor Dental.
South Windsor Dental is a local dental practice in Connecticut started by Sara E. Curcio D.M.D. The main goal of the practice was to focus on building personal connections with her patients while helping to create healthy beautiful smiles.
For all branding projects, it is important to understand a brand’s target audience. For South Windsor Dental, the brand design needed to appeal to younger families in their 30s and 40s who valued being apart of the community and being treated with respect. These families want to feel comfortable while knowing they are receiving the best dental care.
he first step is the discovery phase, where I find out everything I can about a brand’s mission, goals, audience and more. With this project, it was interesting to find out that a lot of people feel like their dentist spends very little time getting to know who they are as a person. They believe their dentist isn’t attentive to their needs, which makes them feel uncomfortable or nervous when they go to their appointment. This made it clear that South Windsor Dental needed to position themselves as a compassionate, welcoming and approachable dental office. To make patients feel comfortable, it was important that the overall design have a clean, modern and soothing vibe. This can be seen in the mood board below.
Primary + Secondary Logos
This branding project was unique, because I needed to create a brand that also encompassed a personal brand. Not only was I designing the look and feel for South Windsor Dental, but I also needed to create a logo for Sara.
One way of incorporating both brands into one was using both logos together, especially when using the modern "SC" monogram. This monogram is a fresh and unique approach for a dentist. The classic styling of all the brand marks gives the design a tailored yet timeless appeal.
Overall these elements convey a professional and calming brand that will appeal to younger families who want a dental practice that they can trust and feel comfortable around.
When it came to color, it was important to select a palette of cool and calm colors. The hues give off a relaxed and soothing vibe. It attracts both men and women through its gender neutral appeal.
Keeping with the vibe of the brand, I needed to create a couple of brand patterns that could easily be used throughout the brand on either the website, marketing collateral or maybe even wallpaper. These simple patterns give off a spa like feel.
